Why Arlington, Broad Ripple & Northwest high schools suggested to close

The IPS Superindent’s office released the three Indianapolis high schools they are recommending to close with a vote this fall- Broad Ripple, Arlington and Northwest.

Three schools located in  predominantly African American neighborhoods will be up against a September board of education vote.

Low attendance rates were among the top reasons the Superintendent proposed the closings- in addition to saving the school board an estimated 4 million dollars per year.

In 2017 alone African American communities have lost their neighborhood grocery stories with the closing of Marsh supermarkets and now these communities may lose the high schools they have grown up with.
